Update from Jon Whitcombe, Trust Principal -

Secondary Statement

As you will be aware, the DfE has stated that Year 10 and Year 12 students will receive some “face to face” contact with their teachers during Term 6. Currently, we are awaiting guidance from the DfE as to what this means in practice.

Once the guidance is published we will develop our plans and make the necessary arrangements. On June 1st we will write to you explaining what “face to face” means in practice and we will be in a position to confirm when this will commence.

Please note that the current arrangements for online teaching for Years 10 and 12 will continue until further notice.

IB Core - Service Learning

Service learning gives you an opportunity to go out into the local community and make a difference. Over the course of 6th form you will complete 50 hours worth of service learning either on one major project or multiple small projects. These projects can be anything that you would like to do as long as it can be linked to global issues and impacts the local community.

I would like you to start researching global issues. Keep an eye on the news, look online and speak to people. When you are researching global issues I would like you to think: is this also an issue in our local area and how could you make a difference?

I do not need you to have a project set in stone as they will be developed over time but if you had an idea of what area you would like to do a project in, that would be fantastic.

Personal Profile

I would like you to create a personal profile, again this is completely open to you to interpret. You can design your profile however you like but one of the service learning requirements is that you have a profile at the beginning of your portfolio. Think about what experiences you already have and what interests etc you have.

I look forward to seeing you all and working on your projects in September.

Mr Austin
